VISAS

There are several visa options for staying in Thailand. The following is a simplistic summary to be used as a guideline only, for a definitive outline please contact a Thai lawyer. Obviously every persons' situation is different and need to find the visa appropriate to their circunstance.

Tourist Visa:

Generally allows stays of three months but can be extended another thirty days. Renewable externally for maximum six months.

Non-Immigrant B:

This allows stays in Thailand up to one year if multiple entry or three months if single. Multiple entries are generally not difficult to obtain from Thai consulates in most western countries. Renewable externally.

Non-Immigrant O:

Generally used for people with Thai families. If married to a Thai this can be extended to a "marraige visa" which allows twelve month stays. Generally requires the couple show a joint income od THB40,000 per month or THB400,000 in a Thai bank account. Renewable internally.

Retirement Visa:

Allows twelve month stay if show monthly income of THB60,000 or THB800,000 in a Thai bank. You need to be at least 50 years old to apply for this visa.

Work Permit:

Combined with a Nop-Immigrant B or O visa this is the only option for legally working in Thailand. Allows twelve month stays with work via your own company if set up correctly or vis a third party company.
